Biographie:

1.12.1884 born in Rottluff near Chemnitz
1897-1905 High School in Chemnitz (friendship with Erich Heckel starting from 1902)
1905 Abitur in Chemnitz and beginning of the study of architecture at the Technical University in Dresden. Acquaintance with Fritz Bleyl and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
On 7 June establishment of the artist community " the bridge (Die Brücke)" with Kirchner and Heckel
1911 Removal to Berlin
1913 Dissolution of the bridge
1915-18 War service in Russia and Litauen
1918 Member of the "Arbeitsrat für Kunst" in Berlin. In the following years numerous exhibitions and journeys.
1931 Member of the Prussian academy of the arts in Berlin
1933 Exclusion from the Prussian academy of the arts
1937 Diffamierung as " entarteter artist " and seizing its oeuvres in German museums.
1941 Exclusion from the "Reichskammer der bildenden Künste" and absolute paint prohibition.
1943 Destruction of the studio in Berlin by bombs and removal to Rottluff near Chemnitz
1946 Honorary citizen of Chemnitz
1947 Appointment as professor of the art university in Berlin
1956 Medal Pour le merite
1964 Foundation of the "Brücke"-Museum in Berlin
1970 Honorary citizen of Berlin
10.8.1976 Karl Schmidt-Rottluff dies in Berlin
